DR. RITA A. JONATHAN entered professional life as a middle school language arts teacher. After earning a Ph.D. in education, she migrated to higher education, where she served in faculty and leadership roles. Regardless of her job title, the writing process has been an integral part of Rita’s work throughout her career. In addition to maintaining her own scholarship agenda, she also has guided the research of others, who have included first graders, as well as master’s level and doctoral learners.
Dr. Jonathan has mentored master’s and doctoral learners by:
- Chairing or serving on dissertation committees.
- Assisting dissertation students with topic selection, question development, etc.
- Serving as major professor for doctoral candidates.
- Chairing or serving on thesis committees.
- Serving as a thesis consultant for a master’s level nursing student.
- Serving as advisor for 40-50 master’s level students.
- Developing and implementing a mentoring program for doctoral learners.
- Facilitating the process of identifying appropriate chairs and committee members for specific doctoral candidates.
- Consulting with dissertation committee chairs whose candidates were not making satisfactory progress.
- Addressing grievances and disputes that arose during the dissertation process.
